On the occasion of the release of the first DLC for Bahamut’s Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, we were able to ask a few questions to Daisuke Inoue, the game’s co-director, to find out the developers’ intentions for this first game to expand on the spin-off from FF.

new jobs

What can you tell us about the three new functions, and why did you choose to specifically include them in this downloadable content?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

We decided that Bahamut would appear in this expansion, so we wanted to add a function that had some kind of connection to Bahamut. Of course, you can only choose the summoner’s job, right? Thus, we decided that the role of the scammer would be a sub-function of the Inovactor factor. After coming up with the idea of these two classes, the next question was what weapon would be best suited for these jobs, which is why we decided that they would use missiles. From there, Caster was created as a base class that uses detonators.

We also wanted to add a special flavor to the gaming experience, because this was for expansion after all. So, we’ve made it so that players can experience high-speed gameplay when controlling Bahamut as a Summoner, at a pace that feels like playing a completely different game. With Illusionist we have been able to introduce a completely new fighting style compared to the base game, as it requires the player to think about how to fight while making optimum use of the spirit that comes with it that acts as a support. With all that said, I’d be happy if we could give players a new experience that feels fresh when playing this first expansion.

script

What can you tell us about the roles of Bahamut and the Warrior of Light at this point in the story?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

SOPFFO is, after all, an alternative narrative and a reimagining Final Fantasy (FF1) where Bahamut was a mysterious entity. Why are they in FF1? Why not under the influence of chaos? Why would he upgrade the class of heroes at some point in the adventure? We picked up on this mysterious aspect when we wrote the story because many aspects of Bahamut remained unexplored in FF1.

As for Warrior of Light, he is the antithesis of Jack, and he is also a strong opponent to him. So you can think of these two characters as the bridge between the original FF1.

Difficulty mode

Could you explain to the players the value of Bahamut difficulty?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

We decided to provide content with a higher difficulty level for the expansion version. We wanted to give more depth to loot collection and character evolution. If we ask players to keep playing at the current difficulty levels, it won’t motivate them to get stronger. So, to provide new gaming experiences, we created stronger enemies and more challenging missions to create a simple tournament where players get stronger and then deal with new content.

equipment

Why did you choose to introduce Chaos attachments and equipment, is it to allow players to create new builds?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

Like I said above, this is because we wanted to add depth to the gameplay. There was some depth to customization in the base game, but we regret that the customization may have been too limited to fine-tune your design, which could reduce the fun of collecting loot. In this first expansion, we wanted to increase these aspects of customization. Therefore, we’ve added unique accessories and effects to Chaos’ gear so players can enjoy the trial-and-error process of customizing their characters.

Pray for

In the future, can we expect a summoner to be able to transform into a summon other than Bahamut?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

I’ve talked with the development team about feeling a little restricted to just being able to switch to Bahamut, but so far nothing has been determined.
